Overview

Utrecht is located in the heart of the Netherlands and is the country's fourth largest city, with 300.000 residents.The city is famous for the warehouse cellars along the canals. Once used as storage cellars by the local merchants, they have been converted into restaurants, boutiques or places of cultural interest.Utrecht is well known for its institutions of higher education. Thanks to the many educational institutions, Utrecht is a typical 'student city' where more than 700.000 students live. HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (HU) is one of the largest further education colleges in the Netherlands and is funded by the state. The university has over 37,000 students with more than one hundred different nationalities. And yet, students at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht still experience its educational environment as small-scale and personal.

The academic year at the HU is divided into 2 semesters: Fall (September – January) and Spring (February – July). Each semester is divided into two blocks of ten weeks (seven weeks of classes, self study week and two weeks of exams).
