Course description

This course provides basic knowledge about International Business, and the environment and operations of International Business. It analyzes the features and trends of business in the 21st century and delves into international trade and foreign direct investment. This course looks at the importance of culture, politics, legal issues, economics, monetary systems, labor issues and accounting systems in international business. Each of these topics is discussed with European, American, and Asian viewpoints.

Course aim

The major aim of this course is to familiarize students with contemporary theories and processes in international business, and to create a foundation for business thinking within a global context.

Learning outcomes

  • The students will be able to name, explain and apply the different forms (e.g. types of multinationals, entry modes, etc.) of international business.
  • The students will be able to analyze the environment of international business from cultural, political, legal, and economic perspectives.
  • The students will be able to assess the effects that fluctuating currencies have on international businesses, as well as the effects that various accounting systems have on the operations of international businesses.
  • The students will be able to evaluate and interpret international trade and to estimate the various types of trade barriers.
  • The students will be able to appraise foreign direct investment, and to define the main factors that differentiate foreign investment from local investment.
  • The students will be aware of the various methods used by international businesses when gaining entry into foreign countries, and to be able to choose the most appropriate method of entry in a given market situation.
  • The students will be able to integrate all that has been learned in the course while working on a project in a team, and demonstrate their presentation and problem-solving skills by participating in class discussion and group work presentation.
