Address: Arklių str. 18, Vilnius, Lithuania. About Doctoral Dissertation: The enhancement of research performance has become one of the most significant challenges for European higher education institutions (HEIs). The dissertation aims to reveal the specific HRM bundles that lead to the enhancement of research performance and the mediating mechanisms linking HRM and research performance. The theoretical framework for the HRM–research performance linkage was built and it was then empirically revised and evaluated by applying triangulation – a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The quantitative data was collected from two sources: a survey of academics from European HEIs and Scopus (a database of scientific publications). The results of the study show that HRM strengthens the research-oriented knowledge, skills and abilities of academics, as well as their self-efficacy in conducting research, which therefore affects research performance. The study reveals the importance of self-efficacy to conduct research in the relationship between HRM and research performance. Defense board members Chairperson:Prof. dr.
